Thanksgiving 2025: Turkey Prices Surge 75%, Discounts Offered Now
URGENT UPDATE: With Thanksgiving 2025 just around the corner, shoppers are scrambling for the best turkey deals as prices soar. New analysis from Purdue University reveals that wholesale turkey prices have surged a staggering 75% compared to last year, now averaging about $2.05 per pound. The increase is largely attributed to the ongoing avian influenza outbreak affecting poultry flocks across the United States since February 2022.
Shoppers must act quickly to secure their holiday feasts at the best prices. Retailers are ramping up promotions, offering significant discounts to attract customers amidst fierce competition. “Grocery retailers are competing for customers, and many are slashing turkey prices to entice shoppers,” the Purdue analysis highlights.
Here’s a rundown of the latest turkey prices from major retailers:
– **Aldi** is offering frozen Jennie-O whole turkeys for just $0.77 per pound and smoked Butterball turkeys for $2.29 per pound.
– **Giant** has launched a promotion for shoppers with 400 rewards points, allowing them to redeem for a free frozen Shady Brook Farms turkey (up to 20 pounds). Points can be accumulated through November 27, with other discounts available on hams and Tofurky.
– **Lidl** offers Shady Brook Farms frozen young turkeys for a jaw-dropping $0.25 per pound with a digital coupon, limited to two turkeys per customer. Butterball turkeys are also priced at $0.99 per pound.
– **Price Rite** has introduced a lowest-price guarantee, beating any competitor’s price on frozen turkey by $0.01 per pound. Their Good & Gather frozen turkeys are currently priced at $0.79 per pound.
– **Weis Markets** allows customers to redeem 400 points for a free frozen turkey or other products through November 28.
– **Wegmans** is holding prices steady from last year, with fresh turkeys priced at $1.49 per pound for shoppers spending at least $25.
As the holiday approaches, consumers are encouraged to shop around to find the best deals. Retailers are not only competing on turkey prices but are also promoting various other items to benefit from the holiday rush.
Shoppers are already flocking to stores to take advantage of these limited-time offers. With turkey prices fluctuating and promotions ending soon, those planning Thanksgiving meals must act NOW to ensure they don’t miss out on savings.
