BREAKING: A remarkable achievement in sports as 13-year-old Kelly Goodnow has just been crowned the world champion in pickleball! This stunning victory occurred at the Carvana PPA World Championships in Dallas, marking a significant moment in the rapidly growing sport.

With nearly 20 million people in the U.S. participating in pickleball in 2024, a staggering 45% increase from the previous year, the competition is fierce. Yet, Goodnow has emerged as a standout performer, having only taken up the sport a year ago.

“It was such a great experience,” Goodnow shared after her win. “There was such great competition, and all the hard work is paying off, so it feels great.” In an intense singles final, Goodnow showcased her resilience, coming back from a daunting 2-8 deficit in game three to defeat top seed Jing Robinson. “I had to tell myself to keep fighting, keep digging, keep going for it, and I did,” she recounted. The triumph brought tears of joy to her father, James Goodnow, who praised her determination, saying, “Kelly is an absolute beast on the court.”

The emotional impact of her victory resonated deeply with her family. “It’s such a thrill… most of the time I’m holding my breath,” said her mother, Erin Goodnow. The excitement surrounding Kelly’s success is palpable, and she may soon transition into the professional realm, making her one of the youngest pro pickleball athletes in the country.

Her coach, Ashlee Candelari, expressed enthusiasm about Kelly’s future, stating, “Kelly is going to play her first pro qualifier event, and we’re going to play together in doubles.” This upcoming event will set the tone for her entry into the pro scene.

Training from her own backyard in the Valley, Goodnow has already accumulated national medals and secured sponsorships with major brands including Proton Sports and SParms. “I’m so new to the sport, but I’m having the best time and I’m just glad to be along for the ride,” she said, reflecting on her rapid ascent in the pickleball world.

This victory not only highlights Goodnow’s talent but also underscores the burgeoning popularity of pickleball, attracting players of all ages. As she gears up for her first professional qualifier, the sports community is eager to witness her next moves. Stay tuned for more updates on this young star’s journey!
