UPDATE: A public meeting on November 12 at the Santa Clarita Activities Center has sparked urgent opposition to a proposed eight-story courthouse set for the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard. This plan, presented by representatives from the Judicial Council, aims to consolidate all juvenile criminal cases from the entire San Fernando Valley and handle felony arraignments from outside Santa Clarita, significantly impacting local residents.

Community leader Denise Lite voiced her strong opposition, stating the courthouse will degrade the quality of life in Santa Clarita. She emphasized the need for balanced development that prioritizes safety and community character. “Bringing a large-scale regional courthouse, like the one in Van Nuys, will fundamentally alter our community’s balance,” Lite warned.

The proposed location is alarming due to its proximity to residential neighborhoods such as The Summit and The Woodlands, as well as local institutions like College of the Canyons and the California Institute of the Arts. Lite raised concerns over increased traffic and security risks, which could hinder emergency vehicle access to local hospitals.

Residents are urged to take action before the November 26 deadline for public comments. Lite has called on everyone to voice their opinions by emailing Kim Bobic at [email protected]. “Our silence will be seen as acceptance. We must act now to protect our community,” she stressed.

As a candidate for City Council representing District 2, Lite is committed to safeguarding Santa Clarita’s unique character, safety, and quality of life. “This project, in its current form, does not serve our best interests,” she declared.

Residents must stay informed and engage in this critical discussion to influence the future of Santa Clarita. As this situation develops, the community’s response will be essential in shaping a courthouse proposal that aligns with local values.
