Bruins Extend Win Streak to Six with 5-3 Victory Over Leafs
UPDATE: The Boston Bruins have surged to their sixth consecutive victory, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 on Saturday night, October 28, 2023, at Scotiabank Arena. Fraser Minten scored against his former team, further solidifying the Bruins’ dominant performance.
Jeremy Swayman was instrumental in the win, making 30 saves as Boston overcame a sloppy outing from Toronto. The Bruins’ attack was bolstered by goals from Morgan Geekie (1 goal, 1 assist), Viktor Arvidsson, Michael Eyssimont, and David Pastrnak.
The Maple Leafs, who had previously won three straight games, struggled to keep pace. Nick Robertson, Matias Maccelli, and John Tavares found the net for Toronto, but it wasn’t enough to match the offensive power of the Bruins.
Boston took the lead in the second period on a power play, with Eyssimont’s shot barely crossing the line, a sequence that required video review. Just moments later, Pastrnak delivered a spectacular goal that ended the night for Toronto’s goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who allowed four goals on just 19 shots. Dennis Hildeby replaced Stolarz, stopping 19 shots in relief.
As the game intensified, Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov delivered a crushing hit to Scott Laughton, igniting a fight with Maple Leafs winger Bobby McMann. Laughton, who was returning from a lower-body injury, left the game and did not return.
“It feels great to contribute against my former team,” Minten stated after the game. “We’re building momentum, and it’s exciting to be part of this winning streak.”
Boston took control early, as both teams combined to score three goals in just 38 seconds during the first period, marking the fastest scoring sequence of the season. With a commanding lead going into the final minutes, Minten sealed the victory with a goal just over three minutes remaining.
Looking ahead, the Bruins will host the Maple Leafs again on Tuesday night, while Toronto prepares to face the Carolina Hurricanes at home on Sunday.
This latest win reinforces the Bruins’ position as a formidable contender in the league, showcasing their depth and resilience even in the absence of top defenseman Charlie McAvoy, who missed the game due to personal matters.
Stay tuned for more updates as the NHL season progresses, with Boston continuing to build momentum amidst a crucial phase of the schedule.
