UPDATE: A remarkable 7-year-old from Tinley Park, Illinois, is set to make a significant impact this weekend by organizing a food giveaway aimed at helping over 150 families in need. Instead of a traditional birthday celebration, Alex Anning has chosen to dedicate his upcoming 8th birthday on October 7, 2023, to support individuals facing food insecurity.
This inspiring initiative arises at a critical time, as many Americans may struggle with access to food assistance due to a government shutdown. Alex’s mother emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “This is coming at a time where this is of great need and increased.”
The idea for the food drive sparked when Alex witnessed an unhoused person struggling to find something to eat. “I just feel sad that they don’t have food,” he expressed, showcasing a level of empathy that is rare for his age. His mother shared that instead of asking for gifts, Alex wanted to make a difference for those in his community.
The food giveaway will take place at Bond Elementary, located at 7050 S. May St., Chicago, from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday. Alex and his mother, who run a non-profit organization called Season to Soar, have been busy securing necessary supplies from various grocery stores, ensuring that the food drive meets the needs of local residents.
“Alex was very hands-on and a little bossy with the grocery shopping. He’s like, ‘Mom, can you please scoot over there a little bit,'” his mother recounted, highlighting his determination and enthusiasm.
Alex’s mission reflects a profound understanding of community service, as he aims to fill the gaps for those who are unhoused or struggling to put food on the table. “Because it helps the community, and it helps the Earth go stronger,” he stated, demonstrating a mature perspective on his role in creating positive change.
As the food giveaway approaches, community members are encouraged to participate and support this heartfelt initiative. Alex’s selfless act not only brings hope to struggling families but also serves as a reminder of the power of compassion and action.
Don’t miss the chance to support this young humanitarian’s effort to uplift his community. Share this story and spread the word about the food giveaway happening this Saturday!
