Gaylord Palms Unveils New ‘Rudolph’ Ice Spectacle—Opens Nov. 14
UPDATE: The Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee is set to launch its spectacular holiday event, “Ice!” featuring a stunning ice-sculpture display inspired by the beloved television classic, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The event opens on November 14 and runs through January 4. This year’s showcase promises to be an immersive experience with breathtaking designs crafted by artisans from Harbin, China.
Work is currently underway, with artisans chiseling away at over 1,000 tons of ice. This year’s redesign marks the first time “Rudolph” will be featured at the Gaylord Palms, although it has appeared at other Gaylord locations. “We really invested in taking the design, elevating it to something completely different,” said Niko Nickolaou, senior director of special events and experiences for the Gaylord resorts.
The elaborate exhibition will include 11 unique scenes from the classic story, such as the iconic “storm of the century” and the whimsical “Island of Misfit Toys.” Attendees can expect interactive photo opportunities, including a chance to pose alongside icy renditions of Rudolph and Hermey, the dentist-aspiring elf.
Artisans are working in a frigid environment maintained at a chilling 9 degrees Fahrenheit, with the project expected to take a total of 33 days to complete. Currently, the carvers are smoothing edges and perfecting details, with some characters still awaiting final touches. “That’s our signature room. We spend most of our ice blocks in that room,” Nickolaou explained, referring to the spectacular slide area featuring a massive Bumble, the abominable snow monster.
The event is designed to cater to both locals and visitors seeking a unique holiday experience, with the resort providing parkas for guests, although many choose to bundle up with extra layers. As Meghan Hash, director of special events and entertainment, advised, “Bundle up. Layers are your friend. Definitely hats, definitely gloves. Hand warmers are encouraged.”
In addition to “Ice!”, the Gaylord Palms will debut a Jack Frost-themed “chocolate activation” and a Cirque show titled “Pomp, Snow and Cirqueumstance,” based on a popular Broadway production.
As excitement builds for this annual holiday highlight, the Gaylord Palms Resort is poised to offer a breathtaking winter wonderland, ensuring that families can create lasting memories during the festive season.
