Breaking: Two Dead in San Jose Multi-Vehicle Collision
URGENT UPDATE: A devastating multi-vehicle collision on Highway 87 in San Jose has left at least two dead, including an adult and a child, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The tragic incident unfolded yesterday morning, October 15, 2023, around 10:50 a.m., prompting immediate emergency response.
Witnesses report a chaotic scene involving multiple vehicles, including Teslas and a Lexus. One vehicle fled the scene, heightening concerns over the incident’s complexity. The collision resulted in a fire that engulfed several cars, leading to a significant disruption of traffic, with northbound lanes blocked for hours and congestion stretching back to Capitol Expressway.
Emergency responders worked diligently to extinguish the flames, described by San Jose Fire Department Battalion Chief Bennett Yendery as “multiple vehicles involved with fire.” Fortunately, the fire was brought under control quickly, despite the presence of electric vehicles with lithium batteries. By 3:45 p.m., the highway was reopened, allowing traffic to resume.
At least two additional individuals were transported to local hospitals, although their conditions remain undisclosed, according to reports from ABC7 News. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officer Ross Lee emphasized the complexity of such incidents, stating, “We respond to crashes all the time… vehicles have many different working components.”
As authorities work to piece together the events leading up to this tragic accident, the emotional toll on families and the community is already palpable. The investigation remains a top priority for the CHP, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
Stay tuned for further developments on this urgent situation as officials continue to gather details and provide updates.
