Nelly Korda, the world-renowned golfer, announced her engagement to businessman Casey Gunderson on Friday. The 27-year-old athlete, currently ranked No. 2 on the LPGA Tour, shared the news through a series of professional photos that quickly went viral, amassing nearly 115,000 likes and receiving congratulations from fellow athletes, including WNBA star Caitlin Clark.

Unlike her previous relationship with professional athlete Andreas Athanasiou, Korda has kept details about Gunderson relatively private. Athanasiou, a Canadian hockey player and former NHL center, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The couple began dating in 2019 but separated three years later. Korda’s current fiancé, Gunderson, has a background in business rather than sports. He graduated from Bryant University and began his career as an associate at Bisnow. He later joined Florida Engineering LLC, where he is now the Vice President, overseeing commercial and residential development projects across Florida and other significant markets.

Background on Casey Gunderson

Gunderson’s professional journey is complemented by his athletic history. During his high school years at Cardinal Mooney High School, he played football at the IMG Academy, demonstrating his commitment to sports, even if he did not pursue it professionally.

The couple’s engagement comes at a pivotal time for Korda, who recently faced challenges in her golf career. Despite her impressive rankings, she struggled to secure a victory in 2025, finishing as a runner-up twice, including a close second at the Women’s U.S. Open. As a result, she lost her No. 1 status to Jeeno Thitikul. Korda remains optimistic about the future, stating, “I feel like there was a lot of ups and downs, and it made me grow a lot mentally. I would say I’m just also very grateful for it because, you know, success is never linear.”

Support from Peers and Future Aspirations

Korda’s journey has garnered attention and support from her friends and peers. Caitlin Clark, who has developed a friendship with Korda, expressed admiration for her dedication and resilience in the sport. After spending time together at the 2025 LPGA Annika pro-am, Clark remarked, “It’s been cool to watch her over the course of the last year. She put in a lot of time to create her own PE, and very unique to her and what she’s passionate about in herself, and obviously, somebody that is very, very deserving, and been at the top of the sport for a long time now.”

As Korda prepares for her upcoming wedding, she looks forward to regaining her competitive edge in the golf world. With her engagement marking a new chapter in her personal life, Korda balances her wedding plans with a hopeful outlook for the 2026 golf season.
