PSG Legend Urges AC Milan to Choose Restes Over Leeds Keeper
European football clubs are already preparing for the January transfer window, with major interest in several players from Leeds United. AC Milan and Inter Milan are among the clubs scouting goalkeeper Illan Meslier. However, former Paris Saint-Germain defender Christophe Jallet has voiced his opinion, recommending that AC Milan steer clear of Meslier and consider another option instead.
Speaking to Milan News, Jallet contrasted Meslier with Guillaume Restes, a goalkeeper currently playing for Toulouse. Jallet noted significant concerns regarding Meslier’s physicality and consistency, suggesting that Restes might be a more reliable choice for a club of Milan’s stature.
Jallet Highlights Concerns Over Meslier
Jallet elaborated on his assessment, stating, “Meslier is leaner and more skinny, Restes is more powerful. It’s difficult to choose, but I’d go with Guillaume because he gives me more confidence.” This insight reflects a growing unease within Leeds United regarding Meslier’s form and role. The 25-year-old has fallen to third choice behind Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow this season, a trend that has impacted his confidence and could hinder his transition to a top-tier club like AC Milan.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Meslier’s future at Leeds, the club is still expected to attract interest in the player during the January transfer window. With his contract set to expire this summer, Leeds may consider a cut-price sale to avoid losing him for free. Jallet’s comments could potentially influence AC Milan’s interest, but Meslier remains a viable option for multiple clubs.
Market Dynamics for Goalkeepers
Several teams are keeping a close eye on Meslier, including Strasbourg, which is reportedly interested in acquiring him before the competition heats up. Other clubs such as Anderlecht and Celtic are also monitoring the situation, looking for an experienced goalkeeper at a low cost. Leeds may still have opportunities to offload Meslier, despite Jallet’s cautionary stance.
As the January window approaches, the message from France is clear: AC Milan should prioritize acquiring Restes over Meslier. While Leeds United faces challenges with Meslier’s form, the goalkeeper’s market remains active, ensuring that he will have options as the transfer window opens. The upcoming decisions by AC Milan and other clubs will ultimately shape the next chapter for both Meslier and Restes.
