Mother Dies After Fall from 10th Floor with Twin Sons in Arms
A mother tragically lost her life after falling from the tenth floor of an apartment building in Madrid while holding her three-year-old twin sons. The incident occurred shortly after 09:00 on December 6, 2023, in the residential neighborhood of Ciudad Lineal, approximately 30 minutes from the city center. The 48-year-old woman, identified as Maria, died at the scene, while her sons were rushed to separate hospitals with critical injuries.
One of the twins was taken to the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, and the other was admitted to Hospital Infantil Niño Jesús. Medical professionals have expressed grave concerns regarding the condition of the more seriously injured child, with fears that he may not survive. As of now, there have been no further updates on their health status.
Witnesses reported that Maria had been shopping for Christmas presents just hours before the incident. The family had gathered the previous day to celebrate the twins’ birthday, making the timing of this tragedy even more heartbreaking.
Investigation Underway
A spokesman for the city ambulance service confirmed the details of the incident, stating, “We can confirm the death of a woman who plunged from the tenth floor of a block of flats in Ricardo Ortiz. Two children aged three have been taken to different hospitals.”
The National Police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. Local police and firefighters were also dispatched to the scene to assist and gather information.
This tragic event follows another incident involving a tourist who died last month on the Balearic island of Menorca when his vehicle fell into the sea after driving off a ferry. The 67-year-old man was found in cardiac arrest, and despite lengthy attempts at reviving him, he was pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating how the vehicle deviated from the dock and plunged into the icy waters.
The tragic fall in Madrid has left the local community in shock, highlighting the vulnerability of families during what is typically a joyful holiday season.
