Warriors Edge Nuggets 137-131 in Overtime Thriller; Curry Shines
URGENT UPDATE: The Golden State Warriors pulled off a thrilling 137-131 overtime victory against the Denver Nuggets on October 26, 2023, at Chase Center, thanks to a spectacular performance from Stephen Curry and an unforgettable night from Aaron Gordon.
In a stunning display, Gordon scored 50 points with an impressive 17-of-21 shooting and 10-of-11 from beyond the arc, including eight consecutive 3-pointers. Just seconds remained in regulation when Gordon’s final 3-pointer put the Nuggets ahead by three, making it a career night for the 12th-year forward.
However, Curry was not to be outdone. With just 26 seconds left on the clock, he answered Gordon’s shot with a remarkable 34-footer to tie the game, pushing the Warriors into overtime. Curry finished the game with 42 points, sinking six 3-pointers and showcasing his clutch shooting ability once again.
“The bigger the moment, the more he rises,”
said Draymond Green, praising Curry’s poise under pressure.
In the overtime period, Curry opened with another 3-pointer and sealed the game with two free throws, leading the Warriors to a crucial win and a 2-0 start to the season. The Nuggets, now 0-1, will return home to face the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
Gordon’s performance stands out in NBA history; he became only the 17th player to make ten 3-pointers in a game that resulted in a loss, a feat previously achieved by Curry seven times. “Ridiculous,” Curry remarked about Gordon’s night, emphasizing the hard work Gordon put in over the summer.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made a bold move late in the fourth quarter, deploying a larger lineup featuring Curry, Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga, Green, and newly acquired Al Horford. This unexpected combination effectively erased a seven-point Denver lead in the final minutes of regulation. “It was really fun to watch a group that’s never played together close a game against one of the best teams in the league,” Kerr said.
The strategic shift proved effective, allowing the Warriors to better match the Nuggets defensively. As the Warriors build momentum early in the season, they aim to establish themselves as serious contenders in the Western Conference.
