Tim Weah Injured During Marseille’s 2-1 Loss to Lens
UPDATE: United States winger Tim Weah exited the pitch with an injury during Marseille’s 2-1 loss to Lens on Saturday, just moments after delivering his first assist for the club in the French Ligue 1. The incident raises concerns about the severity of his injury and its potential impact on his season.
Weah set up Mason Greenwood‘s opener in the 17th minute but was substituted in the second half due to an apparent injury to his left thigh. Reports indicate he was replaced by Leonardo Balerdi as the match progressed at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
“It would be very bad news for us if he really hurt himself,”
said Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi after the match, indicating that initial assessments suggest it may only be a minor knock. However, the club has yet to provide detailed information regarding the nature of the injury, leaving fans and analysts on edge about Weah’s condition.
Weah, who returned to the French league this summer after an inconsistent two-year stint at Juventus, had previously shown promise during his time at Lille, helping the team secure the Ligue 1 title in 2021. His father, George Weah, a former FIFA Player of the Year, also has ties to Marseille, having played one season for the club 25 years ago.
The timing of Weah’s injury is particularly concerning as Marseille is currently competing in a tight league standings. Following Saturday’s match, defending champions PSG overtook Marseille, moving one point clear of Lens at the top of the table after a decisive 3-0 win against Brest.
Fans and teammates will be anxiously awaiting further updates on Weah’s condition as the club prepares for upcoming matches. The impact of his potential absence could be significant for Marseille’s aspirations this season, especially with the pressure mounting in the Ligue 1 title race.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Marseille looks to assess the full extent of Tim Weah’s injury.
