T.J. Watt Surpasses J.J. Watt on NFL Career Sack List
BREAKING: T.J. Watt has officially surpassed his older brother J.J. Watt on the NFL’s career sack list, achieving this milestone during a thrilling matchup against the Chicago Bears on July 15, 2025. T.J. Watt now holds 115 career sacks, placing him 26th on the all-time list, a significant moment that has fans buzzing.
In a pivotal play during the second quarter, T.J. delivered a stunning strip-sack on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, allowing Nick Herbig to recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. This defensive gem propelled the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 14-7 lead, showcasing T.J.’s ability to change the game’s momentum.
J.J. Watt, who enjoyed a legendary career as a defensive powerhouse with the Texans and Cardinals, commented on his brother’s achievement. “Hell of a way to break my record,” he said while serving as a CBS Sports color analyst for the game. His pride is palpable, having been a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time NFL sack leader.
T.J. reflected on the journey that led him to this moment, expressing deep respect for J.J.’s accomplishments in an interview with CBS Sports. “I was spoiled to be able to watch him play,” T.J. stated. “It just seemed so normal that I took it for granted. When I got to the NFL, I realized how hard it is to do what he’s been doing his whole career.”
Since being drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, T.J. has made a name for himself, earning his first Pro Bowl selection in 2018 and winning the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021, all while chasing Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record.
The emotional connection between the brothers adds a powerful narrative to T.J.’s rise in the league. J.J. praised T.J.’s skills, declaring, “I think he’s the best defensive player in the game,” solidifying the younger Watt’s reputation among NFL greats, including his own brother.
As the game progresses, fans are eager to see how T.J. Watt will continue to break records and inspire the next generation of defenders. With his latest achievement, he not only honors his brother’s legacy but also cements his own status in NFL history.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Steelers aim to build on their lead against the Bears and as T.J. Watt continues to climb the ranks of NFL legends.
