Skateboarder Terry Kennedy to Be Released from Prison Dec. 31
UPDATE: Famed skateboarder Terry Kennedy is set to be released from prison just in time for New Year’s Eve. The Illinois Department of Corrections confirms that Kennedy, 40, will walk free on December 31, 2025, after receiving sentence credits that expedited his release.
Kennedy is currently serving a five-year sentence for his involvement in the death of fellow skater Josiah Kassahun during a violent incident in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, on July 27, 2021. Prosecutors explained that during a confrontation outside a motel, Kennedy became enraged and struck Kassahun, leading to a fatal fall. The medical examiner later reported that Kassahun succumbed to severe internal injuries.
Although Kennedy was acquitted of murder charges in 2022, he was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery, resulting in consecutive five-year sentences. He will remain under supervised release until June 30, 2026, when he is expected to be fully discharged.
Kennedy, a prominent figure in the skateboarding community and a participant in events like the X Games, has a significant fan base. His return to society is generating buzz among street skating enthusiasts who are eager to see how this chapter unfolds.
With this release, Kennedy will have the opportunity to reintegrate into his community and potentially return to the sport he loves. Fans and followers await further developments as the date approaches.
Stay tuned for updates as Kennedy prepares for life outside prison walls.
