URGENT UPDATE: Day one of early voting in New York City’s 2025 general election has concluded with an astounding 79,409 voters casting their ballots on Saturday, according to the New York City Board of Elections. This marks a dramatic surge compared to just 15,418 early voters on the first day of early voting in 2021 during the last mayoral election.

The turnout in Manhattan alone reached 24,046, surpassing the entire city’s first-day turnout from the last election. Brooklyn followed closely with 22,105 early voters, while Queens saw 19,045 participants. The Bronx recorded 7,793 votes, and Staten Island counted 6,420 ballots.

New Yorkers are not just voting for the city’s next mayor; they are also selecting a city comptroller, public advocate, borough presidents, city council members, and judges, depending on their location. Notably, voters in Brooklyn and Manhattan have district attorneys on their ballots.

In addition to these critical offices, voters will weigh in on six ballot questions. The first statewide question addresses state forest land, while questions two through five pertain to housing development within the city. The final question proposes shifting the city’s election cycle to even-numbered years to align with presidential elections.

The early voting period lasts for nine days, concluding on Sunday, November 2. Voters can find detailed information about the ballot and their early voting sites by visiting Gothamist’s voter guide.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey, voters are also heading to the polls to select a successor for term-limited Governor Phil Murphy. The race features Democratic Representative Mikie Sherrill against Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

As early voting continues, the enthusiasm and participation levels in New York City indicate a significant engagement among residents. Stay tuned for more updates and developments as the election progresses.
