Mets Sign Left-Hander Richard Lovelady to Urgent One-Year Deal
UPDATE: The New York Mets have just signed left-hander Richard Lovelady to a one-year contract as of Thursday, aiming to bolster their bullpen ahead of the upcoming season. This move follows a challenging stint for Lovelady, who posted a 6.30 ERA in eight appearances with the Mets this past season.
Lovelady, now 30 years old, also faced struggles while with the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing four runs over just 1 2/3 innings in two games. He joined the Mets in June 2023 but was designated for assignment three times toward the end of the season, highlighting a tumultuous year. However, he found some success at the minor league level, achieving an impressive 2.08 ERA in 16 games with Triple-A Syracuse.
In related news, the Mets confirmed that All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor recently underwent a cleanup procedure on his right elbow. Fortunately, he is expected to be fully ready for spring training, ensuring a strong start for the team.
This latest signing of Lovelady signals the Mets’ commitment to improving their roster and addressing pitching needs as they prepare for the challenges ahead. Fans will be eager to see how Lovelady fits into the team’s plans in the coming months.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Mets continue to make moves in the offseason.
