Max Scherzer Set to Ignite Game 4 for Blue Jays Against Mariners
UPDATE: Max Scherzer is gearing up to take the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners tonight, October 19, 2025. Scherzer, known for his fiery demeanor, expressed his eagerness: “I love it. This is what you play for. You want to have the ball in this situation. You want to be pitching in the postseason.”
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the Blue Jays, who dropped the first two games of the series at home. They now face a must-win situation in Seattle to keep their championship hopes alive. Scherzer’s experience will be critical as they aim to bounce back in this best-of-seven series.
The 41-year-old pitcher, making his 26th postseason start, hasn’t taken the mound since September 24, 2025, against the Boston Red Sox. His return to the lineup comes after a rocky finish to the regular season, where he posted a 5.19 ERA over 17 starts. Scherzer, who signed a $15.5 million one-year contract with Toronto earlier this year, acknowledged his struggles but remains confident in his abilities: “When I take the mound, I take the mound, and I have the attitude that I’m going to win no matter what.”
Scherzer’s recent performance has been less than stellar, with an 0-3 record in his last eight postseason starts. However, his teammate Chris Bassitt has faith in Scherzer’s capabilities. “I expect Max to be Max, in the aspect of just go out there and execute at a very, very high level,” Bassitt stated.
Although Scherzer faced challenges this season, including neck pain that limited his performance, he has taken the necessary time to prepare for this critical moment. The Blue Jays are relying on their veteran ace to lead them through this pivotal game.
The team is determined to turn the tide after losing two games and has shown resilience throughout the season, with numerous comeback victories. Scherzer emphasized, “We’re a great team. I’ve seen it over and over throughout this year, the number of times we responded in so many different ways.”
Tonight’s matchup is set for 8:00 PM ET in Seattle, and fans are eager to see if Scherzer can deliver the performance needed to keep Toronto’s postseason dreams alive. The urgency is palpable as the Blue Jays aim to regain momentum in the ALCS.
Stay tuned for updates as Scherzer and the Blue Jays take on the Mariners in this crucial Game 4 showdown.
