Marjorie Sack Hobday, 95, Passes Away Surrounded by Family
UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, aged 95, has passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025. Surrounded by her loving family, Hobday’s passing marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to music, family, and community.
Hobday was born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise (Hollins) Sack and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard G. Hobday, with whom she shared a profound love for over 53 years. Marjorie is also mourned by her children: Gordon Hobday, Wendy Haugh, and JoAnn Massad, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Marjorie was deeply involved in local music communities, participating in groups like the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. She and Richard were fixtures in church choirs, bringing joy to many through their shared passion for music.
A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie developed a resourceful and creative nature, often crafting and gardening, nurturing beauty around her home. The Hobdays cherished summers spent at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, filled with wildlife, canoeing, and memorable family moments.
A Mass in her honor will take place on November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the committal service, attendees are invited to a reception at the church hall to celebrate Marjorie’s life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either Calvary Episcopal Church or the Estherville Animal Shelter in Greenfield Center, NY.
Marjorie Sack Hobday will be remembered for her grace, creativity, and the harmonious impact she had on her family and community. As the news of her passing spreads, many are expected to share their tributes and memories of this beloved figure in the Burnt Hills area.
