Longmont Halloween Parade Draws Huge Crowds with Costumed Fun
UPDATE: The annual Longmont Halloween Parade transformed Main Street into a vibrant spectacle of costumes and excitement on October 28, 2023. Families flocked to the event, showcasing their creativity and celebrating the festive spirit under sunny skies.
New and returning attendees filled the streets as they donned elaborate costumes ranging from superheroes to beloved movie characters. Many participants were inspired by the animated film KPop Demon Hunters, with young fans sporting colorful wigs and stylish outfits reminiscent of the film’s characters. Notable among them was Sloane Hurowitz, aged 6, who wowed onlookers dressed as Rumi, the film’s main character, complete with purple braids and intricate symbols drawn on her costume.
“This is our first year participating in the parade,” said Sloane’s mother, Candice Hurowitz. “I can’t believe how many people are here. Sloane has watched the movie a hundred times!”
The excitement was palpable as families like the Hernons joined the fun for the very first time. Each member dressed as a character from the Batman universe, showcasing their handmade costumes that took months to prepare. “We’ve lived here for 13 years, but this is the first time we’ve ever done this,” said Misty Hernon, who appeared as the Riddler. “We’ve been working on these since, like, March.”
Parade-goers delighted in a variety of creative costumes, including characters from The Wizard of Oz, astronauts, and an impressive Bumblebee suit from Transformers. Local high school marching bands added to the festive atmosphere, playing seasonal favorites while dressed in costumes of their own.
Another newcomer, Joslyn Strock from Firestone, shared her enthusiasm for the event. “I saw such good costumes today,” she said, dressed as a yellow minion from Despicable Me. “A friend told me it was the best parade that Longmont puts on, so we had to join this year.”
The Longmont Halloween Parade, a staple in the community, continues to grow, drawing families eager to participate in this joyful celebration. As the parade wrapped up, participants and spectators alike left with memories of a spectacular day filled with creativity and community spirit.
What’s Next: Plans for next year’s parade are already in the works, promising even more excitement and opportunities for families to showcase their Halloween spirit. Stay tuned for updates as Longmont prepares for another unforgettable celebration in 2024.
