Lexus Driver Arrested in Urgent 6-Vehicle Crash on Staten Island
BREAKING: A Brooklyn man, Elijah Alabi, 36, has been arrested following a dramatic six-vehicle crash that briefly shut down the Staten Island Expressway early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 2:42 a.m. near South Avenue, prompting a swift response from multiple units of the NYPD and FDNY.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of the collision, which involved a 2021 Lexus SUV operated by Alabi. Authorities confirmed that one of the vehicles caught fire during the crash, raising alarms among nearby drivers.
The NYPD reported that Alabi was driving with a suspended license at the time of the incident. Fortunately, the situation is under control, though two individuals sustained injuries. Their current medical condition remains unknown.
This collision caused a complete halt of traffic on the westbound lanes of the expressway, causing significant delays for morning commuters. As the investigation unfolds, the NYPD is urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
