Kapa‘a Faces Major Traffic Disruptions from December 15-17
URGENT UPDATE: Kapa‘a residents must prepare for significant traffic disruptions starting December 15 as road closures are set to impact daily commutes. The Kauai County Department of Public Works has announced that essential geotechnical subsurface exploration will take place, affecting major thoroughfares.
From December 15 to December 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, drivers can expect numerous lane and road closures. The work is aimed at improving traffic signals and installing a new utility pole, but it will create temporary inconveniences for commuters.
On December 15, a single-lane closure will begin on Kukui Street, specifically impacting the left turn lane just west of the Kūhiō Highway intersection. The following day, December 16, a complete closure will occur on a portion of Kukui Street’s east side near the same highway junction. Finally, on December 17, the south end of Niu Street adjacent to Kūhiō Highway will also be closed to traffic.
While these disruptions are unavoidable, officials assure residents that access to properties along the affected routes will remain open. Municipal authorities are urging the public to adhere to all posted signage and directions from flaggers in the work zones.
“Access to properties will be provided. Please observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs, and flaggers,”
stated Kauai County’s official website.
Commuters should account for additional travel time and expect detours and potential delays due to the lane and road closures.
Stay tuned for further updates as Kapa‘a navigates these crucial traffic modifications, ensuring safer and more efficient travel in the future.
