Ernie Clement Sets MLB Record with 30 Postseason Hits in Game 7
BREAKING: In a stunning performance during Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night, Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays shattered the major league postseason record by achieving 30 hits in one playoff season. This remarkable feat overtakes the previous record of 29 hits held by Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.
Clement’s historic achievement is not just a personal milestone; it highlights his incredible journey as he played in his first postseason. The 29-year-old infielder recorded three hits in the decisive Game 7, including a crucial leadoff double in the eighth inning that sent Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan packing. This double not only solidified Clement’s place in history but also extended his hitting streak to a franchise-record 13 games, surpassing Pat Borders’ 12-game streak from 1992.
Earlier in the game, Clement made his mark by singling in the second inning and scoring in the sixth, raising his postseason batting average to an impressive .417. Throughout the series, he has tallied one home run and nine RBIs.
The Blue Jays faced a fierce battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who ultimately triumphed in Game 7, clinching their second consecutive championship. With the score tied at 4 in the bottom of the ninth, Clement nearly secured a victory for Toronto but saw his drive to left-center field caught on the warning track with the bases loaded, forcing extra innings.
This postseason, Clement has proved to be a key player for Toronto, participating in a total of 18 games across three playoff rounds. His path to this moment has been anything but straightforward. Drafted by Cleveland in 2017, he faced challenges including being designated for assignment in September 2022 and later being released by the Athletics before signing a minor league deal with the Blue Jays.
During the regular season, Clement appeared in a career-high 157 games, showcasing versatility by playing all four infield positions and finishing with a solid batting average of .277, alongside nine home runs and 50 RBIs.
As the dust settles on the World Series, all eyes will be on Clement and the Blue Jays as they regroup and strategize for the next season. His record-setting performance has not only captured the attention of fans but also set a new benchmark for future postseason players.
Stay tuned for more updates as we track the implications of this historic achievement and the Blue Jays’ journey ahead.
