UPDATE: The El Reno community is mourning the loss of Sgt. Thomas Duran, who tragically lost his life while on duty. Duran was struck by a vehicle on October 17, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication, now honored by his fellow officers and community members.

In a profound show of support, family, friends, and law enforcement from across Oklahoma gathered last night at OU Medical for an emotional honor walk, celebrating Duran’s final wish to be an organ donor. “We took that call knowing it’s one of yours, one of your own, and it’s difficult,” said Chief Ken Brown. “Imagine even a loss or injury to a family member.”

Flowers and heartfelt tributes adorned police vehicles outside the El Reno Police Station, symbolizing the community’s grief and respect for their fallen hero.

At the Elks Lodge, community members rallied to support Duran’s family, hosting a fundraising event featuring a $10 spaghetti dinner. “100% of everything that comes in tonight, including tips, is going right back to the family,” stated Jared Holden of the Elks Lodge. The gathering not only served as a meal but as a moment for healing and solidarity.

“It’s been a beautiful coming together,” Holden added, emphasizing support from both local and neighboring communities. “This shows that this community is strong, and there’s nothing going to hold us down.”
