Doris Ann Peterson, Beloved Duluth Matriarch, Passes Away at 88
BREAKING: Doris Ann (Hecimovich) Peterson, a cherished member of the Duluth, MN community, has passed away at the age of 88. She died on October 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, marking a profound loss for those who knew her.
Born on December 27, 1936, in Ashland, WI, Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She graduated from DePadua Catholic High School in 1956 and married Robert (Bob) Peterson on August 31, 1957. Together, they raised four sons in Duluth, where Doris was known for her unwavering dedication to family and community.
Once her children were in school, Doris found joy in her role as a teacher’s aide at St. Michael’s Raggedy Ann Pre-school. Her patience and love for children were evident in her work, which she embraced wholeheartedly. Doris was also an active volunteer, contributing her time to St. Michael’s Used A Bit store and assisting with funeral lunches at her church.
Family gatherings were the highlight of Doris’ life. She relished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, especially during the Fourth of July celebrations at her childhood home in Ashland. Her quick wit and sense of humor remained with her throughout her life, even in her final days.
Doris was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Peterson, her husband Bob, and her parents. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, remembered fondly by her surviving children: Steve (Donna), Mike (Kris), and Craig (Lynn) Peterson. She is also survived by her sister Joanne Hecimovich, brother Lawrence (Donna) Hecimovich, and her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore for their compassionate care during Doris’ final years. In accordance with her wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate her remarkable life.
This heartfelt farewell resonates deeply within the Duluth community, reminding all of the importance of family and the enduring legacy of love. As news of Doris’ passing spreads, many are taking a moment to reflect on the impact she had on their lives and the cherished memories they will carry forward.
