BREAKING: Bugatti has officially wrapped up production of its final W-16 track car, the Bolide, marking a significant milestone in automotive history. The last of just 40 units has been delivered to a collector in Molsheim, France, who paid an astounding €4 million for this exclusive vehicle, which is not street-legal.

The final Bolide was picked up directly from the factory, sealing the fate of one of the auto industry’s most iconic engines. This wealthy owner is not just any buyer; they also possess a classic Bugatti Type 35 and a Veyron Grand Sport, both of which represent Bugatti’s legacy. The Bolide’s luxurious design features a striking Black Blue and Special Blue Lyonnais exterior with a Lake Blue Alcantara interior, making it a true collector’s item.

As Bugatti closes this chapter on its W-16 engine, the company is pivoting to its next venture: the Mistral, a roadster set to be the last to feature the W-16 engine. Deliveries of the Mistral began in February 2023, with just 99 units planned for production. This model aims to deliver the fastest roofless performance ever seen, as the iconic engine bows out in style.

Meanwhile, British engineering firm Lanzante is exploring the possibility of converting a Bolide for road use, signaling a growing interest among owners who may wish to take their rare track toys onto public roads.

Bugatti’s transition to a new era involves the introduction of an all-new V-16 engine for the upcoming Tourbillon, set to replace the Chiron. This engine will feature a larger displacement of 8.4 liters and will embrace a hybrid system, moving away from the traditional quad-turbocharged W-16 setup to meet stricter emissions regulations.

This shift is part of Bugatti’s broader strategy to breathe new life into its classic models. The new Programme Solitaire will allow for one-off commissions, similar to what Pagani has done, revamping older cars with updated designs and technology.

With the end of the W-16 era, the automotive world watches closely as Bugatti takes bold steps into the future. The legacy of the W-16, however, may not be forgotten easily, as there are rumors that models like the Veyron and Chiron could still see special editions or renewed interest, reminiscent of the enduring Zonda.

Stay tuned for further updates as Bugatti continues to innovate and redefine luxury automotive performance.
