Brewers’ Pat Murphy Wins NL Manager of the Year Again!
UPDATE: Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy has been named the National League Manager of the Year for the second consecutive season, a significant achievement in Major League Baseball. This news broke on Tuesday night, with Murphy securing an impressive 27 of 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. He outperformed strong competitors, including Philadelphia’s Rob Thomson and Cincinnati’s Terry Francona.
Murphy’s leadership propelled the Brewers to an extraordinary 97-65 record, marking a franchise record for wins. Just earlier this season, the Brewers were sitting in second place in the NL Central before executing an incredible turnaround, featuring a 29-4 stretch that included a franchise-record 14-game winning streak. This pivotal run allowed Milwaukee to surpass the Chicago Cubs and clinch the division.
In the postseason, the Brewers made history by eliminating the Cubs in the NL Division Series, securing their first postseason series victory since sweeping Colorado in the 2018 NLDS. However, their journey ended in the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, where they were swept.
The 66-year-old Murphy, who will celebrate his birthday on November 28, was previously the Brewers’ bench coach for eight seasons before taking the helm after Craig Counsell departed for the Cubs in November 2023. His coaching journey includes notable stops at Notre Dame and Arizona State, and he briefly managed the San Diego Padres.
Murphy’s accomplishments this season echo those of Bobby Cox, the last NL manager to win the award in consecutive years back in 2004 and 2005.
In other managerial news, Rob Thomson led the Phillies to a strong 96-66 record and their second straight NL East title this year, finishing fifth in the Manager of the Year voting. Meanwhile, Terry Francona guided the Reds to an NL wild card, marking their first playoff appearance since 2020.
Stay tuned for more updates as the MLB Awards Week continues, with the Cy Young Award winners being announced on Wednesday and the MVPs revealed on Thursday.
This latest recognition for Murphy highlights the impact of strong leadership in sports and sets the stage for what’s next in the Brewers’ quest for a championship. Don’t miss out on sharing this exciting news with fellow baseball fans!
