Boulder Farmers Market Launches Urgent Thanksgiving Food Drive

URGENT UPDATE: Boulder County Farmers Markets (BCFM) has just announced a vital initiative to support local families this Thanksgiving by providing 150 holiday food bags to those facing food insecurity. This effort addresses the needs of SNAP customers who lost benefits during the recent government shutdown, highlighting the pressing need for community support as the holiday approaches.

In a powerful display of community spirit, BCFM rallied neighbors to contribute to this cause, successfully filling bags with essential Thanksgiving staples such as potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, and pie crusts. The distribution of these food bags took place last week, directly benefiting local families in need. “The appreciation shared by our community members has been overwhelming,” said a BCFM representative. “Many families also received additional butternut squash from Cure Organic Farm, showcasing the generosity of our local farmers.”

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, BCFM is committed to enhancing food security and supporting local agriculture. In addition to the holiday food bags, they are partnering with food pantries to donate bulk produce and protein items, ensuring that fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most. This Thanksgiving, BCFM encourages community members to make a tax-deductible donation to help sustain these efforts throughout the year.

The initiative coincides with the upcoming Colorado Gives Day on December 9, where donations to BCFM will be amplified by a $1 Million+ Incentive Fund. Donors can also set up monthly contributions, with the Colorado Gives Foundation matching the first gift up to $100. For those looking to make a significant impact, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA is another effective way to donate.

Additionally, BCFM will host its annual Winter Market on December 6-7, featuring over 150 vendors, including local farmers, ranchers, and artisans. The market will take place at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, located at 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont, CO 80501, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. This festive event will not only provide an opportunity to support local businesses but also create a space for community connection during the holiday season.

As families gather around their tables this Thanksgiving, BCFM urges everyone to consider the importance of supporting local farmers and ensuring that all community members have access to fresh, locally grown food. Every donation plays a crucial role in building a thriving local food system rooted in gratitude, equity, and abundance.

Join BCFM in their mission, and help spread the word about this essential initiative. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of many this holiday season. Visit bcfm.org/donate for more information on how to contribute, and don’t miss the chance to experience the charm of the Winter Market next weekend!
