Arlington’s Mike Berneburg Wins TRAPS Award for Golf Accessibility
URGENT UPDATE: Arlington’s own Mike Berneburg has just been honored as the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) North Region Recreation Professional of the Year, recognizing his groundbreaking efforts in making golf more accessible and engaging for the community. This prestigious award was presented at the TRAPS North Region Conference held in Denton earlier today.
Berneburg’s initiatives are transforming the golfing landscape in Arlington, specifically through programs that support veterans, youth, and the local golf industry. His commitment to community outreach shines through in the PGA HOPE program, where he offers adaptive golf clinics at no cost for veterans and active-duty service members. This vital program not only honors those who have served but also fosters a sense of community and healing through the sport.
Moreover, Berneburg is paving the way for future generations with the launch of the Youth on Course initiative, allowing juniors to play on Arlington’s greens for just $5 per round. This initiative is a game-changer, making golf affordable and accessible for young players eager to learn and enjoy the sport.
Berneburg’s influence extends beyond local outreach; he is also the face of the Veritex Bank Championship, a pivotal PGA Korn Ferry Tour event that has significantly boosted Arlington’s profile in golf and sports tourism. His extensive experience includes serving as the Head Golf Professional at Lake Arlington Golf Course and Meadowbrook Park Golf Course from 2011 to 2024, where he skillfully managed the greens and fairways.
His outstanding achievements have garnered praise from Dr. Venera Flores-Stafford, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, who stated,
“Mike’s vision, professionalism, and dedication consistently raise the bar—not only for Arlington Golf but for our field as a whole.”
Berneburg’s dedication, combined with his UT Dallas Business Administration degree and PGA Membership since 2012, solidifies his reputation as a leading figure in the golfing community.
As the news spreads, Berneburg’s recognition not only highlights his individual contributions but also emphasizes the importance of community-focused golf programs. His commitment ensures that Arlington continues to serve its residents and those who have served the nation, creating a legacy that future generations can build upon.
Stay tuned for further updates on Berneburg’s initiatives and their impact on the Arlington community!
