Warriors Waive Seth Curry Following Preseason Roster Adjustments
The Golden State Warriors made headlines on Saturday by waiving guards Seth Curry and LJ Cryer as part of their roster adjustments following the 2025 NBA preseason. After a busy offseason that saw the team address various needs, the decision to release the 35-year-old Curry was a notable move, particularly as he is the brother of the franchise’s star player, Steph Curry.
The Warriors signed Seth Curry to a training camp deal earlier in the offseason after finalizing Jonathan Kuminga‘s contract situation. While the addition of veteran big man Al Horford garnered attention, the team’s efforts to include both Curry brothers showcased their commitment to bolstering their roster. The official announcement regarding the waivers came shortly after the Warriors concluded their preseason activities.
Despite not participating in any of the five preseason games, Seth Curry’s time with the team was not without value. He joined the Warriors under an Exhibit 9 contract, which allowed him to practice with the team in preparation for the upcoming season. Financial limitations prevent the Warriors from signing him to a standard deal until November, but they have kept his spot open on the roster.
Seth Curry’s shooting prowess is undeniable, as he led the NBA in three-point percentage during the previous season, boasting a remarkable 45.6% from beyond the arc with the Charlotte Hornets. Over his eleven-year career, he has maintained a 43.4% shooting percentage from three-point range, making him a valuable asset for the Warriors, especially as they seek more shooting options beyond just Steph Curry and a few other players.
The decision to waive both Curry and Cryer, a 24-year-old rookie from the University of Houston, was somewhat expected. Reports indicate that Cryer is likely to join the Santa Cruz Warriors, the team’s G League affiliate.
As the season approaches, the Warriors aim to solidify their roster and enhance their offensive capabilities. While Seth Curry will not start the season with the team, his potential return in November remains a topic of interest among fans and analysts alike. This strategic approach allows the Warriors to keep a spot open for him, ensuring that he can contribute to the team once officially signed.
With the NBA season set to commence shortly, the Warriors are preparing for critical matchups, including their opening night against the L.A. Lakers. The anticipation surrounding the team’s performance and the possible re-integration of Seth Curry adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming season.
