Malik Beasley in Advanced Talks for $2 Million Deal with Partizan Belgrade
Free agent swingman Malik Beasley is reportedly engaged in advanced negotiations for a contract with Partizan Belgrade that would run for the remainder of the season. According to Dusan Markovic of Nova.rs, the deal is expected to be valued at approximately $2 million and will not include an opt-out clause for a return to the NBA.
Beasley, who is 29 years old, had an impressive season with the Detroit Pistons, participating in all 82 games. He averaged 16.3 points per game, achieving a career-high shooting percentage of 41.3 percent from three-point range. His performance earned him a runner-up position for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.
Prior to the summer, the Pistons were in discussions to extend Beasley’s contract with a three-year offer valued at $42 million. However, those negotiations fell through when it was revealed that Beasley was under federal investigation for possible illegal betting activities. The inquiry, launched by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York in June, coincided with the onset of the free agency period, creating uncertainty surrounding his future in the NBA.
Despite the serious implications of the investigation, Beasley was not included in the October indictments that led to the arrests of Terry Rozier of the Miami Heat and Chauncey Billups, head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, in separate gambling-related cases. Nonetheless, Beasley remains under scrutiny, as he has not yet been cleared by federal investigators or by the NBA, which is conducting its own review of the situation.
This ongoing limbo has hindered Beasley’s prospects for securing a deal within the NBA, even as teams from Europe and China express interest in his services. Reports indicate that clubs are closely monitoring Beasley’s situation, including the Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Partizan Belgrade, which competes in both the ABA League and EuroLeague, features former NBA players such as Shake Milton and Jabari Parker. The team has encountered a challenging start this season, currently holding a record of 5–9 in EuroLeague play. Beasley’s potential addition could provide a significant boost to their campaign.
As negotiations progress, the implications for Beasley’s career and the direction of Partizan Belgrade remain to be seen.
