The New York Jets executed a significant trade ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4, 2025, sending All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. In exchange, the Jets received two first-round draft picks and wide receiver AD Mitchell, as reported by multiple sources.

Gardner, who was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, recently signed a lucrative four-year, $120.4 million contract extension with the Jets last offseason. The former star from Cincinnati made a notable impact in his first two seasons, earning Pro Bowl selections and First-team All-Pro honors in both 2022 and 2023.

In a brief message on social media, Gardner acknowledged his time with the Jets, writing, “New York it’s been real,” shortly after the trade news broke.

The Jets, currently sitting at 1-7 following their bye week, are looking to the future. This trade not only provides them with additional salary cap space but also positions them with two extra first-round picks as they aim to rebuild for the 2026 season.

In contrast, the Colts find themselves in a more favorable position. Despite a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9, the Colts boast a strong record of 7-2 and have emerged as one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season. Under head coach Shane Steichen, quarterback Daniel Jones has rejuvenated his career, and running back Jonathan Taylor has been outstanding on the ground.

With Gardner joining their ranks, the Colts have strengthened their defense and solidified their status as serious contenders for the championship. This trade marks a pivotal moment for both franchises as they navigate their respective paths in the league.
