Exciting Matchups Set for Round 3 of State Football Playoffs
As the state football playoffs advance into the third round, excitement builds among fans and players alike. A total of 48 teams remain in contention, with eight teams competing in each classification. The third round matchups are scheduled for November 21, promising thrilling action across the state.
Class 6A Showdown
In the highly competitive Class 6A, notable matchups include Henderson County facing off against South Warren, and Male taking on St. Xavier. These games are expected to draw significant attention, as teams vie for a place in the semifinals.
The state semifinal round will feature a notable change, as the brackets will reset, allowing teams to be paired up statewide, irrespective of their district affiliations. This shift may lead to unexpected rivalries and exciting contests.
Other Classes in Action
In Class 5A, the matchups include Fairdale taking on Owensboro, while Bowling Green will compete against Atherton. The remaining games feature West Jessamine at Pulaski County and Scott County facing Woodford County.
Class 4A will see North Oldham go head-to-head with Franklin County, while Logan County meets Paducah Tilghman. Other matches in this category include Covington Catholic against Boyle County and Corbin facing Highlands.
In Class 3A, Union County will challenge Christian Academy-Louisville, and Lexington Catholic will compete against Murray. Additional games feature Russell at Lloyd Memorial and Lawrence County facing Bell County.
The Class 2A matchups include Somerset at Owensboro Catholic, and Mayfield will take on Lexington Christian Academy. In other games, Breathitt County will compete against Belfry, while Prestonsburg faces Beechwood.
In the smallest classification, Class A, fans can look forward to Newport Central Catholic playing at Campbellsville, and Newport visiting Kentucky Country Day. The remaining matches include Paris at Raceland and Middlesboro against Pikeville.
