The Houston Rockets delivered a commanding performance against the Boston Celtics, securing a decisive 128-101 victory on March 16, 2024. Star player Kevin Durant showcased his skills by scoring 26 points in just three quarters, allowing him to rest during the final period. This win marks the Rockets’ third consecutive victory, following an initial two-game losing streak, while simultaneously ending the Celtics’ three-game winning streak.

Durant’s contribution was complemented by Amen Thompson, who added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Alperen Sengun, who recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Other notable performances included Jabari Smith Jr. and Josh Okogie, each scoring 12 points as the Rockets dominated the game.

Boston Struggles to Find Rhythm

The Celtics faced a challenging night, failing to match the intensity of the Rockets. Baylor Scheierman led the Celtics with 17 points, while Payton Pritchard contributed 14 points. Jaylen Brown, who had scored 32 points in Boston’s previous game against Philadelphia, added 12 points before sitting out the final quarter.

Throughout the match, the Celtics struggled with coordination and defense, allowing the Rockets to shoot an impressive 57 percent from the field in the first half. By halftime, the Rockets had established a solid lead of 66-48. The Rockets also excelled in rebounding, dominating the boards 53-36.

Frustrations Erupt on the Court

The game saw rising tensions, particularly in the third quarter, when frustrations boiled over for the Celtics. Coach Joe Mazzula received a technical foul early in the period. Following a series of violations, including a 3-second violation and a flopping call on Chris Boucher, Durant capitalized by converting an additional free throw, pushing the Rockets’ lead to 74-50.

As the third quarter came to a close, the Rockets maintained a significant lead of 97-72, prompting many Boston fans to exit the arena early. Durant’s early dominance was evident as he scored 12 points in the first period and reached 20 points by halftime.

The Rockets now look ahead to their next challenge as they prepare to host the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. Meanwhile, the Celtics will also be back on their home court to face the Utah Jazz on the same day.
