Remembering Michael Godes: A Life of Service and Love
Michael Craig Godes, affectionately known as “Lippy” or “Mike,” passed away on November 20, 2025, at the age of 81. A resident of East Bethel, Minnesota, Godes was celebrated for his warm heart, dedication to family, and compassionate service to others throughout his lifetime.
A Life Well-Lived
Born on October 30, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Godes led a vibrant life that took him from Mendota Heights to various locations including California, France, and Germany before he eventually settled in East Bethel. His journey was marked not only by diverse experiences but also by a deep commitment to his family and community.
Michael served in the U.S. Army as an S4 and radio operator for three years, an experience that instilled in him a sense of duty and service. However, his true calling was found in psychiatric nursing, which he pursued for an impressive 43 years at Ramsey/Region’s Hospital. Through his empathetic approach and compassionate care, he positively impacted countless lives.
Family and Legacy
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Penny Krogmann; children, Elyse and Todd Godes; and five grandchildren: Molly, Caleb, Owen, Georgiana, and Flynn. He also leaves behind a sister, Randee Lyons, a brother, John Godes, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Gertrude Godes, and his brother, Thomas Godes.
Michael’s life was a testament to his unwavering kindness and dedication to family. A favorite verse from the Jewish scriptures, Proverbs 17:6, encapsulates his legacy: “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”
In his leisure time, Michael enjoyed fishing, watching game shows and the television series NCIS, and was an enthusiastic member of a local card club. He was also known for his affection for cigars, often enjoyed in the company of family and friends.
His memory will be honored during a memorial service at 10:00 AM on November 23, 2025, at the Hodroff-Epstein Memorial Chapel, located at 671 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul. Following the service, a Shivah will take place that evening at 7:00 PM at 725 Linden St., Mendota Heights, in the Community Room.
As family and friends gather to celebrate Michael Godes’ life, they are encouraged to share memories and upload photos on his memorial page. These personal reflections will serve to illuminate his legacy and provide comfort to all who knew and loved him. Michael’s steadfast love for his family and his commitment to serving others will always be remembered.
