Church Celebrates 12 Years of Service with Community Impact
Last Sunday, the church community in Mitchell, South Dakota, celebrated the twelfth anniversary of its pastors’ service. This significant milestone prompted reflections on the role of the church within the broader community. Pastors emphasized a crucial question: If your church ceased to exist, would the community feel its absence? Their mission aligns with biblical teachings, which encourage being “salt and light” in the world.
The celebration included a recent event where the church supported 135 students from the local area. Numerous volunteers collaborated to make this gathering possible, demonstrating the strength of community involvement. Greater Goods played a key role by providing discounted new prizes for the teenagers. Local businesses also contributed, with Casey’s donating pizzas and Pepsi supplying beverages. The local police department offered their presence to ensure safety and support throughout the event.
In an inspiring address, Josh Brewer, CEO of LifeLight, delivered a meaningful message aimed at motivating the students. Additionally, the local Gideons organization contributed by gifting Bibles to the participants, reinforcing the community’s commitment to spiritual growth and support.
The pastors expressed deep gratitude for the gifts, kind words, and generous acts of encouragement from the congregation. They highlighted that the most significant gift congregants can offer is their active service. This involves discovering personal callings within the Body of Christ and committing to those roles wholeheartedly, as stated in 1 Corinthians 12:12: “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
As the weekend drew to a close, pastors left the congregation with a final challenge, echoing the Apostle Paul’s message in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Encourage each other and build each other up.” The call to action aims to inspire ongoing efforts to make a lasting impact in Mitchell and beyond, fostering a community united in faith and service.
