Virginia Boding, Beloved Educator and Community Contributor, Passes Away

Virginia Hagaman Boding, an esteemed educator and passionate community member, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on January 20, 1944, to Floyd and Mildred Fenner Hagaman, she enriched the lives of many through her dedication to teaching and her love for music.

Virginia was raised in a family of three children, alongside her sister Genevieve and brother David. She attended Grass Valley High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science and a secondary teaching credential from Chico State University. This educational foundation paved the way for a fulfilling career in teaching, where she inspired countless middle school students with her enthusiasm for science.

After a brief stint at Bidwell Junior High, Virginia spent the majority of her teaching career at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Red Bluff, California. Her commitment to her students was evident in her innovative teaching methods and her ability to make science engaging and accessible. In addition to her teaching, Virginia contributed to the local community by writing a column for the area newspaper, focusing on the diverse wildflowers native to the region.

Virginia’s personal life was marked by a deep love for her family. She was married for 54 years to Robert (Bob) Boding, and together they raised one son, Benjamin Scott Boding. Benjamin married Tracy Pivovar, and together they welcomed a grandson, Tyrus Ayele, who became a significant source of joy for Virginia.

A devoted member of her church, Virginia shared her love of music by participating in the church choir and teaching guitar to others. Her deep faith and connection to her church community were cornerstones of her life, reflecting her commitment to service and connection with those around her.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Robert, their son Scott and daughter-in-law Tracy, and grandson Tyrus. She also leaves behind her sister Genevieve and brother-in-law Tom Barney, along with two nephews, Kelly and Randall Barney. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother David.

A graveside service will take place at 10:00 on November 18, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery, located at 600 Cemetery Lane in Red Bluff. A reception will follow at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers.

Virginia Boding’s legacy lives on through her contributions to education, her loving family, and her unwavering faith, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
