Ruth E. Martin, Pioneering Letter Carrier, Passes Away at 75
Ruth E. Martin, a beloved figure in Pembroke, New Hampshire, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the age of 75. Surrounded by family, Martin’s death marks the loss of a pioneering woman who made her mark as the first female letter carrier in Concord.
Born on March 7, 1950, in Nashua, Ruth was the daughter of the late Russell and Martha (Welch) Richardson. She received her education in the Loudon schools and began her professional journey at the Pittsfield Shoe Factory. In 1970, she joined the United States Postal Service, where she served for over 30 years. Known affectionately as “Ruthie,” she became a well-respected member of her community during her tenure.
Ruth was not only dedicated to her work but also to her passions. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafting, as well as spending time fishing, which brought her joy and relaxation. Her family often gathered for these activities, further cementing her role as a cherished matriarch.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Raymond P. Martin, and her grandsons, Aybel Martin and Brian Martin. She also lost two brothers, Ernest and David Richardson.
Ruth’s legacy continues through her children: Anthony B. Palisi and his fiancé, Jennifer Long; Raymond Martin II and his wife, Laurabeth Wallace-Martin; Russell Martin and his wife, Kassi; Elisha M. Dupuis and her husband, Matthew; Scott Martin and his wife, Kim; and Tony Martin and his wife, Becca. She is also survived by her brothers, Robert, Charles, and Roy Richardson, along with fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth’s family has expressed their deep sorrow at her passing and their gratitude for the time spent together. They invite friends and community members to honor her memory during a calling hour on December 10, 2025, from 16:00 to 18:00 at the Roan Family Funeral Home, located at 167 Main Street in Pembroke.
A graveside service is planned for the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation at 807 Mantoloking Road, Brick, NJ 08723, to support research and assistance for affected families.
