Four Kapaa High School Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent
Four female athletes from Kapaa High School made headlines on November 14, 2025, by signing their National Letters of Intent. The athletes—Ruby Swartz, Chloe Ayonon, Carlyn Kamoku-Rapozo, and Sienna Yamashita—celebrated this significant milestone in their athletic careers, marking their commitment to furthering their education and sports at the collegiate level.
Kapaa High School girls volleyball coach Paea Tafea highlighted the dedication and perseverance demonstrated by each athlete throughout the recruiting process. “It takes a lot of hard work to achieve this,” Tafea remarked, referring to the athletes’ efforts both on and off the court. They not only excelled in their sport but also completed the necessary administrative tasks to secure their letters, ensuring all requirements were met before signing on National Signing Day.
The community played a vital role in supporting these athletes. Coach Tafea acknowledged the contributions of coaches, teachers, schoolmates, parents, relatives, and others who have supported the athletes’ journeys. Local officials also recognized the significance of this achievement. Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
As excitement builds for the upcoming Football National Letter Signing Day on December 3, anticipation is growing around potential signings from local football players.
This weekend, the community can look forward to several events. According to the calendar from Kukui Grove, the Kupuna Connection will take place, supported by Spectrum, alongside the K+M marketplace, which may feature festive offerings. Additionally, the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Jazz Band, under the direction of Sarah Tochiki, is set to perform.
In other local news, the Kauai Ocean Discovery is expected to resume its regular weekend hours following a recent government shutdown. Edwin Vea announced the monthly craft fair at The Beach House restaurant, featuring around 40 to 50 vendors, scheduled for Sunday from 09:00 to 13:00. The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny conditions with a high of 28 degrees Celsius (84 degrees Fahrenheit), promising a pleasant weekend for attendees.
