Feed the Children and the Chickasaw Nation are set to host a Resource Rally on December 6, 2023, aimed at assisting 800 families in Ada with food and essential items as the holiday season approaches. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pontotoc County AgriPlex, located at 1710 N. Broadway. Families attending will receive a 25-pound box of shelf-stable food, which includes canned vegetables, soup, cereal, and more. Additionally, a 15-pound box containing personal care items, children’s books, and toys will also be provided.

The distribution will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, reflecting the urgency of support during the holiday season. This initiative marks another chapter in the collaboration between Feed the Children and the Chickasaw Nation, which has spanned several years. Together, they aim to address food insecurity in Oklahoma, a state that consistently ranks among those with the highest levels of food scarcity.

According to federal data, approximately 16% of Ada residents live below the poverty line, emphasizing the critical need for support in the community. Emily Callahan, president and CEO of Feed the Children, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “The holidays can be especially difficult for families struggling to put food on the table, and far too many children are going without the food and hygiene essentials they need to thrive this time of year.”

Callahan further expressed gratitude for the decade-long collaboration with the Chickasaw Nation, which has allowed both organizations to extend their reach. “This holiday, our collaboration is a step closer to realizing our vision of a world where no child goes to bed hungry,” she added.

The Resource Rally not only serves to alleviate immediate needs but also aims to foster a sense of community during the festive period. Supporters interested in contributing to the cause can make donations through the Feed the Children website at feedthechildren.org. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to addressing food insecurity, helping children in the U.S. and around the world to survive, grow, and thrive.
