Community Mourns the Loss of Vernon A. Nathe, 1937-2025
The community is mourning the passing of Vernon A. Nathe, who died peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Clarkston, Washington, in 1937, Vern was the youngest of five siblings, raised by his parents, Elizabeth and Peter Nathe. His life story is one of dedication, love for family, and a commitment to service.
After graduating from Washington State University, Vern joined the army, where he served for two years in Germany. Following his military service, he relocated to Mountain View, California, where he met his future wife, Lou Elsa Voegtly. They shared a fulfilling marriage that lasted for over six decades, during which they raised three sons: Michael, Matthew, and Jonathan, in their home in Novato.
Vern was a well-respected figure in his community, particularly for his contributions to the local education sector. He worked at Dominican College in San Rafael and ran his own company, Nathe Food Service. Later, he became the owner of West Brooklyn Pizza, also located in San Rafael. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality service left a lasting impact on those who patronized his businesses.
A devoted Christian, Vern was an active member of his church, enjoying the choir for many years and making regular contributions. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and relationships. Outside of work and family, Vern was passionate about golf and was a long-time member of the Marin Country Club. His enthusiasm for sports extended to football, where he was a dedicated fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He held season tickets from the team’s early days at Kezar Stadium through their time at Candlestick Park, eventually passing the tickets to his sons when the team moved to Santa Clara.
Vern’s legacy is one of loyalty and friendship. He is survived by his wife, Lou Elsa, their three sons, four grandchildren, and his sister, Ethel. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember him.
A memorial service will be held on November 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Loretto, located at 1806 Novato Blvd, Novato. The service will begin with a Rosary at 10:30 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. The community is invited to honor Vern’s memory and celebrate his life, which touched so many.
Vernon A. Nathe will be remembered for his contributions to family, friends, and the community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication.
