Community Leader and Musician Bronwen Tudor Passes Away at 80

Bronwen Tudor, a dedicated musician and community leader, passed away at her home in Five Islands on November 12, 2025. She was 80 years old and had expressed a desire to spend her final days in the place she loved.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 4, 1945, Bronwen was the daughter of Elbert John and Isabelle Claridge Taylor. Growing up in a family that valued music, she developed a deep appreciation for church music at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Her educational journey took her to Germantown Friends School, where she graduated in 1963. There, she participated in a specialized music program that nurtured her passion for music and her commitment to community service.

Musical Journey and Professional Achievements

Bronwen continued her education at Radcliffe College, graduating in 1967. Shortly after, she embarked on an around-the-world singing tour with the Harvard Glee Club and the Radcliffe Choral Society, an experience she considered formative in her life.

Throughout her career, Bronwen was not only a talented soprano but also a dedicated educator and arts administrator. She taught English and Music at various institutions, including Germantown Friends School, Erskin Academy, and Oak Grove-Coburn. Additionally, she led a community arts program in Augusta and briefly in Jacksonville. As a board member of ACCUCA, a national performing arts organization, she contributed to the arts community significantly.

Her musical talents led her to perform with symphony orchestras in Boston, Jacksonville, Florida, and Portland, as well as in local community choruses. Bronwen was involved in numerous church choirs and was known for her passionate performances.

Community Engagement and Legacy

Bronwen’s commitment to community and political affairs was evident throughout her life. She believed that active participation was essential in effecting change. She held leadership positions in various organizations, including the Georgetown Working League, the Democratic Party, and the Georgetown Government. At the time of her passing, she served as the chair of the Georgetown Select Board.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David Tudor, her brother John Taylor and his family, cousin David Notter and family, as well as many friends who cherish the memories they shared with her.

A memorial service to celebrate Bronwen Tudor’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on January 10, 2026, at the Days Ferry Congregational Church in Woolwich. Her legacy as a musician and community advocate will continue to inspire those who knew her and benefited from her contributions.
