Renowned Architect Andre Lee Ballard Passes Away at 63
Andre Lee Ballard, a respected architect known for his contributions to significant building projects across Asia and the Middle East, passed away at home in London on October 27, 2025. He bravely faced pancreatic cancer for over a year before his death, just days shy of his 64th birthday on October 31.
Born in Montreal, Canada, and raised in Suffolk, Virginia, Ballard pursued his passion for architecture at the University of Virginia. It was there that he met his future wife, Mary Ellen Vance. The couple shared a love for adventure, leading them to live in various cities, including Norfolk, London, and Hong Kong, where they began their family and forged lasting friendships.
A Legacy of Architectural Excellence
Throughout his career, Andre Ballard made significant contributions to prominent architectural projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, and Saudi Arabia. He was particularly proud of his work on the City of Dreams in Macau, a project designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid. His innovative designs and keen insights into architecture earned him a reputation for excellence in the field.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ballard was known for his irreverent wit, broad intelligence, and easygoing nature. He was an avid reader with interests spanning history, science, and culture. His thoughtful insights on these subjects often sparked engaging conversations among friends and family.
Andre is survived by his cherished children, Jason, Lauren, and Sophia, along with his devoted wife, Mary. His family mourns the loss of a husband and father who left an indelible mark on their lives.
Memorial Services and Celebrations of Life
A funeral service will be held in London on November 21, providing an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects. Following this, a memorial gathering will take place at the family’s residence in Nags Head, North Carolina, on December 6 starting at 18:00. Attendees are invited to share stories, raise toasts, and scatter his ashes in the ocean, a place he cherished deeply.
Andre Lee Ballard’s legacy will endure through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched during his time on Earth. His contributions to architecture and his vibrant personality will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
