CU Buffs’ Bangot Dak Sizzles in Win Over UC Davis, 95-79
UPDATE: Bangot Dak electrified Colorado Buffaloes fans with a stunning performance against UC Davis, leading the team to a 95-79 victory on November 15, 2023. Despite recovering from a knee injury, Dak showcased his impressive athleticism with a breathtaking alley-oop dunk, signaling that he is regaining his spring.
The Buffaloes kicked off the game with a commanding 10-0 run, fueled by Dak’s fast break play. This win marks Colorado’s first 5-0 start since the 2019-20 season, highlighting their offensive prowess and determination. Dak’s performance is a key reason for this success.
“I told (Hargress) before the game, ‘Just go throw it at the square. I’m the only person that can go get it,’” Dak said, reflecting on his game-changing dunk. His confidence is visibly growing, even as he continues to work back to full strength after missing summer practices.
In his last two games, Dak has shot an impressive 63.2% (12-for-19) from the field, including 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. Against UC Davis, he scored 18 points, his third-highest career total, trailing only his previous bests of 19 against Cincinnati and 20 at Iowa State.
What stands out is Dak’s newfound aggressiveness on the boards. Averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, his five rebounds against UC Davis were his lowest this season, indicating a significant improvement from last year’s average of 3.9.
“I feel like I’m getting closer,” Dak remarked. “I definitely feel a difference from game one to (UC Davis). I’m feeling better day by day.” This renewed energy is crucial as the Buffaloes prepare for their upcoming tournament at the Acrisure Holiday Classic, where they will face San Francisco on November 17 at noon MT.
While Colorado’s offense has been thriving, scoring at least 90 points in four consecutive games for the first time in years, their defense remains a concern. UC Davis shot 51.7% from the field, and the Buffaloes allowed seven offensive rebounds, prompting players to emphasize the need for improvement.
“They definitely gave us some long possessions,” said Barrington Hargress, who is also instrumental in the team’s success. “We’ve got to do better of just imposing our will.”
As the Buffaloes head into the Acrisure Holiday Classic, fans are eager to see how Dak continues to develop and how the team can tighten its defense. With the momentum on their side, Colorado is poised for a strong showing in their first road test of the season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Buffaloes aim to maintain their perfect start and build on the excitement surrounding Dak’s return to form.
