Trump Criticizes Greene, Then Expresses Support for Her Return
Donald Trump has publicly criticized Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), labeling her a “traitor” following her unexpected announcement to resign from Congress. However, in a later conversation with NBC News, Trump softened his stance, indicating he would welcome Greene’s return to political life after a brief hiatus.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it ‘quits.’” He also criticized her association with Tom Massie, a fellow Republican from Kentucky, whom he described as one of the “WORST Republican Congressmen in decades.”
Greene’s announcement to step down from her position came as a surprise. She revealed her plans to resign effective January 5, 2026, stating, “I’m going back to the people that I love to live my life to the fullest as I always have and I look forward to a new path ahead.” Greene expressed her desire to reconnect with her constituents and hinted at future endeavors.
Despite his harsh words on social media, Trump later conveyed a more supportive attitude during his phone call with NBC News. He acknowledged that Greene might face challenges in reviving her political career but expressed hope for her future, saying, “I’d love to see that.” Trump suggested she take “a little rest” before attempting to make a comeback, emphasizing his ability to “patch up differences with anyone.”
The fallout between Trump and Greene appears to stem from their disagreements on significant issues, including Greene’s criticism of Trump regarding his reluctance to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. In recent weeks, Trump announced that he would no longer support Greene’s re-election campaign.
A source close to Greene revealed that she remains optimistic about her chances in her district, even without Trump’s endorsement. The decision to resign was reportedly influenced by the harassment and threats directed at her and her family, which included incidents at public venues such as restaurants and airports.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the dynamics between Trump and Greene will likely remain a topic of interest, reflecting the complexities of alliances within the Republican Party.
