Morgan Geekie Scores Twice, Bruins Beat Kings 2-1 in OT
UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime finish, Morgan Geekie scored his second goal of the night at 2:27 in overtime, propelling the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on February 23, 2024. This victory not only marked a crucial win for the Bruins but also tied Geekie for the NHL goals lead with 16 goals, matching Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon.
The game, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, saw Geekie deliver a stunning snap shot from the top of the right circle, beating Kings goalie Darcy Kuemper high to the far corner. The Bruins, who were looking to bounce back after a recent slump, relied heavily on Jeremy Swayman, who made an impressive 31 saves to secure the win.
Geekie opened the scoring early in the third period at 8:01 with a powerful one-timer from the middle of the ice, again finding the back of the net past Kuemper. However, the Kings fought back, with Joel Armia tying the game with a short-handed goal at 6:57 remaining in regulation. Armia capitalized on a rebound during a rush, marking his second short-handed goal in two games.
This game marks the second consecutive night the Kings have gone to overtime, following a 4-3 loss to San Jose in a shootout the previous evening. The Kings are now facing a three-game losing streak after a strong four-game winning streak.
Next up, the Bruins look to build momentum as they head to San Jose for a matchup on Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Kings prepare to host the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.
As the NHL season heats up, the competition for the top spot is fierce. Fans will be watching closely as Geekie continues to shine and the Bruins aim to regain their winning form. Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting season unfolds.
