South Korean Star Sung-mun Song Enters MLB Posting System Now
BREAKING: South Korean infielder Sung-mun Song has just entered Major League Baseball’s posting system, making him available for teams to sign from Saturday through December 21, 2023. This announcement comes after Song’s impressive season with the Kiwoom Heroes, where he achieved a career-high of 26 home runs and 90 RBIs.
At just 29 years old, Song is a promising left-handed hitter who boasts a .315 batting average for the season. Over the course of his nine-year career with Nexen and Kiwoom, he has maintained a solid .284 average, hitting a total of 80 homers and driving in 454 RBIs.
The urgency around this posting period is palpable. While players from Japanese clubs have a 45-day posting window, South Korean players like Song only have 30 days to secure contracts, making it crucial for teams to act quickly.
Under the current posting agreement with the KBO League, the posting fee is set at 20% of the first $25 million of any major league contract, with lower percentages for higher amounts. Teams will also need to consider a supplemental fee of 15% on any earned bonuses, salary escalators, and exercised options.
As MLB teams prepare for the upcoming season, Song’s entry into the posting system has potential implications for the league’s free agency landscape. His high offensive output and consistent performance make him an attractive option for clubs looking to bolster their lineups.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the posting period unfolds. This is an exciting opportunity for Song to transition to Major League Baseball, and his future performance could have significant impacts on his new team.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as teams vie for the chance to sign this promising player.
