The community of Paradise, California, is mourning the loss of Melvin Lenn Campbell, who passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. Born on June 27, 1939, in Moore, Oklahoma, Melvin was the youngest of five children in the Campbell family. He was the beloved son of Joseph and Hazel (Groff) Campbell.

Melvin spent the majority of his life in Paradise, where he made a significant impact over the course of six decades. He began his career at Larry’s Barbershop before opening his own establishment. However, the changing fashion trends in the 1970s led him to seek work at Stratton’s Market. Eventually, Melvin returned to his passion for barbering at the TeePee Barbershop, continuing until the devastating Camp Fire forced him to evacuate.

Throughout his life, Melvin was also known for his commitment to his faith. He served as a minister at the Paradise Church of the Brethren for 29 years. On the day of the Camp Fire, he was preparing the church for a memorial service when the fire struck, compelling him to evacuate. His dedication to his community and his faith remained unwavering.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Jane Stratton Campbell, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. He leaves behind four children: Joe Campbell, Todd (Brandie) Campbell, Susan Campbell Sorensen, and Kristen Campbell Scarberry. His family includes numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was deeply proud of them all.

The family reflects Melvin’s devotion to God, citing the scripture from Matthew 25:21: “Well done good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things. I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”

Memorial Services Scheduled

Graveside services for Melvin Campbell will take place on November 24, 2025, at Paradise Cemetery located at 980 Elliott Rd, Paradise, CA. In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life gathering is planned for November 30, 2025, at 1:00 P.M., at 146 West Tonea Way, Chico, California. Attendees can look forward to a lunch being served as part of the festivities.

As the community comes together to honor Melvin’s memory, his legacy of service, faith, and love will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who knew him.
