Penguins Rally with Five Goals in Final Period to Defeat Bridgeport
UPDATE: In a stunning comeback, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins surged in the third period to defeat the Bridgeport Islanders 5-3 Friday night at Mohegan Arena. This thrilling victory marks the Penguins’ second straight win over the Islanders, having triumphed 5-4 in a shootout just two days prior.
Trailing by two goals at the start of the third period, the Penguins ignited their offense in a remarkable display, scoring five times within just 18 minutes. Tristan Broz sparked the comeback, netting his eighth goal of the season just 57 seconds into the final period, sending fans into a frenzy.
The excitement continued as Sebastian Aho equalized at 5:28 with his first goal of the season. Despite a brief setback when Adam Beckman put Bridgeport ahead once more, the Penguins quickly retaliated. Aidan McDonough scored his third goal of the season, tying the game at 3-3.
The decisive moment came when Phil Kemp took control, scoring both the game-winner at 14:13 and sealing the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:54. These marks were Kemp’s first two goals of the season, showcasing a standout performance amidst the high-stakes atmosphere.
Penguins’ goalie Maxim Pavlenko played a pivotal role in securing the win, making 23 saves on 26 shots. With this victory, the Penguins now boast an impressive season record of 11-3-1-0 and 5-1-1-0 at home.
