DFW Sabores Event on Dec. 11 to Celebrate Mexican Cuisine

UPDATE: The Dallas Morning News and Al Día are set to host an exciting community event, DFW Sabores en la Comunidad, on December 11 at the Vickery Park Library in Dallas. Starting at 6:00 PM, this Spanish-language gathering will focus on the rich tapestry of authentic Mexican cuisine in North Texas, inviting locals to celebrate food and culture.

Renowned food reporter Imelda García will lead a panel discussion featuring three acclaimed local Mexican chefs from the D-FW Sabores project. This initiative aims to showcase that Mexican food encompasses much more than just tacos, emphasizing its deep roots in the local cultural landscape.

García passionately notes, “Beyond the dishes and their history, this series is about the people who cook them. Each dish, each story, reflects love, memory, and the essence of our Mexican culture.” This event marks a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with the culinary heritage that defines the community.

The evening will also feature samples from various restaurants highlighted in the DFW Sabores project, allowing participants to taste signature dishes and explore menu options. The event takes place at Vickery Park Library, 8333 Park Lane, Dallas, TX, with free parking available for all guests.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by The News to connect with the Hispanic community, which comprises approximately 42% of Dallas County’s population. Managing editor Amy Hollyfield emphasizes the newsroom’s commitment to building trust and highlighting shared experiences. “Food is an equalizer,” she states, underscoring the significance of this celebration of Mexican heritage.

In past sessions, such as an April event at Casa Guanajuato, important discussions regarding mental health access in the Hispanic community were held, reinforcing The News’ dedication to addressing community concerns.

The DFW Sabores project features over 30 dishes from various Mexican states, including Oaxaca, Baja California, Nuevo León, Puebla, and Jalisco. Photojournalist Juan Figueroa has documented the culinary journey throughout the Metroplex, capturing the essence of each dish and its cultural significance.

This free event is open to anyone interested in exploring the vibrant flavors of Mexican cuisine. Check-in begins at 6:00 PM, with the panel discussion commencing at 6:30 PM and a Q&A session following at 7:15 PM.
