Bangladesh Crushes Ireland by Innings in First Test Match
BREAKING: Bangladesh has triumphed over Ireland by an innings and 47 runs in a commanding performance during the first cricket Test match held in Sylhet on July 15, 2025. This decisive victory underscores Bangladesh’s dominance on home turf, with standout performances from opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who both notched impressive centuries.
In a thrilling display of batting, Joy scored a career-best 171 runs, while Shanto contributed a solid 100, leading Bangladesh to a formidable total of 587-8 declared. Ireland, needing 301 runs to force a second innings, fell short, bowled out for 254 in their second innings during the afternoon session of Day 4.
The match began with Ireland electing to bat first. Despite losing captain Andy Balbirnie for a duck, the team saw valuable contributions from Paul Stirling and Cade Carmichael, who added 96 runs together. Stirling managed to score 60 runs before being dismissed, while Carmichael followed closely with 59.
However, the Bangladesh bowlers swiftly turned the tide, particularly Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who dismantled the Irish middle order with figures of 3-50. Debutant Hasan Murad also made a significant impact, claiming 2-47 and effectively thwarting any hopes of a comeback for Ireland.
This match marks the beginning of a two-Test series, with the next game set to commence on Wednesday, July 19, in Dhaka. Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating how Ireland will respond after this defeat.
As Bangladesh celebrates this emphatic victory, the performance of Joy and Shanto has not only lifted team morale but also set a high bar for the upcoming matches. Stay tuned for further updates as this series unfolds.
